Research Description

My lab group is passionate about evidence-based nutrition, and we explore relationships between genes, nutrition, metabolites, and health. In particular, we focus on exploring possible health and metabolic impacts among genetic carriers of the rare disease phenylketonuria (PKU). In the future, we aim to expand our research focus to genetic carriers of other rare inherited metabolic conditions.

Research Summary

Using various omics technologies, my research program seeks to understand how genetic variation influences differing responses to nutrition and how this in turn impacts health outcomes. Our main focus is understanding the impact of L-phenylalanine consumption on cognitive, mental health and cardiovascular outcomes among genetic carriers of PKU. My research also focuses on knowledge translation in the precision nutrition space.

Techniques Used

Metabolomics, genomics; clinical trials
